Weekly Curbside Trash & Recycling Pickup

Single Stream RecyclingCurbside pickup of recycling is done weekly on your regular trash day. Single Stream Recycling has arrived, allowing us to put all recyclables into one container. No more separating.

Resident Trash Drop-off is now located to the left side of the Covanta Transfer Station in the Recycling Drop-off area. This service is intended for the occasional extra trash a resident might have when they do not wish to wait until their next curbside pickup. A Resident Trash Sticker is needed to utilize this area. Stickers for residents that have curbside collection can be purchased at the Tax Collector's Office/Town Hall (781-794-8130). Hours from Nov 1 – Apr 30 are Mon-Fri 7AM-3PM and Sat. 7AM-Noon, May 1-October 31, Monday-Saturday 7AM - 3PM

How Do You Start Single Stream Recycling?
For residents that have curbside collection, simply convert an existing trash container into a recycling container by applying a Town supplied recycling sticker available at the Tax Collector Window at Town Hall and the Recycling Drop-off Center (Across from the "T"). In addition, you may also continue using your current recycling bin.

Holiday Schedule For Trash & Recycling Collection
Whenever a scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, that day's collection and all remaining collections for the week will be delayed one day. Friday's collection will be on Saturday. Holidays falling on Saturday do not change the schedule. Holidays falling on a Sunday will result in a one day delay.

Special Appliance & Scrap Metal Collection Curbside:
Residents are able to recycle all appliances plus additional items such as swing sets, grills (no tanks), lawn mowers (no gasoline) and any metal items not containing hazardous materials. To arrange for pickup, call Capitol Waste at least 48 hours prior to your trash day @ 617-569-1718. If calling after office hours, leave your address, inclusive of "Braintree" & state the day of the week that your trash is collected & what items(s) you are putting out for pickup. Bulk Items: One item per week is allowed:
Mattress and box spring (considered one item), ovens, microwaves, furniture, carpeting and/or lumber (in 3' lenths bundled) .........all items/bundles count against the 5-6 bag/barrel limit before the drop-off is considered a cleanout.

Clean-outs/Excessive Trash Amounts (more than 5 bags/6 barrels)
Curbside trash pickup is intended for normal, weekly household trash and excessive rubbish that is generated by cleanouts due to moving or periodic 'house cleanings' that are in excess of the two-three barrels you normally put out, must be contracted by the homeowner to be removed by private vendor, normally a dumpster or truck. Our curbside vendors are authorized to 'tag' excessive or abusive amounts of trash, items they are not authorized to remove (as an example, TVs), more than one bulk item (see above) or overweight items (in excess of 50 pounds).

Curbside Yardwaste Yardwaste (leaves, grass, & twigs only) will be collected on Saturdays in 2013; collection starts at 7:00 AM. Spring dates: Every Saturday in May plus Saturday June 1st. Materials must be in brown paper leaf bags or a container that can be emptied. NO PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE COLLECTED. Branches and brush should be taken to the Plain St. Compost Site. Hours are listed below.

Christmas Trees will be collected curbside Saturday, January 5 & 12, 2013. After that, please drop off at 225 Plain St. Compost Site. Hours listed above for Plain Street site.

Compost bins can be purchased at the Salvaggio Recycling Center at cost of $40 each, Saturdays, hours above.

New Sticker For Single Stream Recycling
The curbside recycling program expanded through the use of a SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING STICKER can be applied to the side of a clean trash barrel. Maximum allowable weight when full is 50 pounds in 32-36 gallon size containers. Stickers are available at DPW Garage, Ivory Street Recycling Drop-Off Center, Council on Aging and the lobby of Town Hall brochure rack. Please use pressure when applying stickers so that they adhere properly.

Cereal, Shoe, Pasta, & Cracker Boxes, etc., (remove liners)

EMPTY food, paint and cosmetic aerosol cans (remove plastic lid)
Glass Bottles & Jars (all colors)
All Plastics (Numbered 1-7)
Soda, Juice, Water Bottles (glass or plastic)
