Marriage License

Out of an abundance of caution due to the current health crisis, the Town of Braintree has modified their marriage intention policy as follows:

  1. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 781.794.8240.
    • Appointments are available on Tuesday's (9:00am to 6:30pm) and Thursdays (9:00am to 4:00pm)
    • Appointments will not be scheduled earlier than 21-days prior to the planned civil ceremony.
  2. At least one of the parties are required to be a current resident of Braintree.
  3. Both parties are required to apply in person on day of appointment.
  4. A Marriage License Fee of $25 is required on day of appointment.
  5. A three-day waiting period is required before the license can be issued (The three day waiting period may be waived by the Courts). A marriage license, once filed, is valid for 60 days.
  6. After the marriage occurs, the officiant completes the license and returns the certificate to the town.

Use the Request for Vital Record (PDF) document to request a copy of a marriage certificate.
