Public Notice Stormwater Ordinance, Ch. 13.14

Stormwater Regulations Effective as of June 24, 2019

As of June 24, 2019, the Town of Braintree’s Stormwater Management Regulations are in effect. The regulations are available on the Braintree Stormwater website. These new stormwater regulations were created in accordance with the Town of Braintree Stormwater Management Ordinance and are intended to protect, maintain, and enhance Braintree’s public health and surface water quality.

The regulations establish minimum requirements and procedures to control the adverse effects of post-development stormwater runoff, decreased groundwater recharge, and non-point source pollution associated with new development and re-development. All developers and contractors performing construction work in the Town of Braintree should review the applicable thresholds in the new regulations to determine whether or not a stormwater permit will be required for a proposed project. Permit applications should be submitted through the Town’s online permitting process.

In addition to establishing stormwater management standards for construction projects, these regulations also explicitly prohibit illicit discharges to the Town’s municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4), punishable by fines of up to $300 for each violation in accordance with Chapter 13.14 of the Town of Braintree General Ordinances. Illicit discharges are defined as any discharges to the MS4 that are not composed entirely of stormwater, including illegal floor drain or sump pump connections, car wash water, effluent from washing machines or other appliances, leaves and grass clippings, pet waste, or other material dumped into catch basins.

If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the stormwater regulations, please contact the Braintree Stormwater Office at (781) 794-8930.
