On March 17, 2020, Mayor Charles C. Kokoros issued a Declaration of Emergency in the Town of Braintree, effective immediately, to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 within our community. This declaration includes a closure of Town Hall to the public and department staffing levels reduced to accommodate continued provision of public services while keeping the safety and well-being of our staff and the public in mind.
The Town Clerk or Assistant Town Clerk will be staffing the office on a rotating basis during normal business hours to provide a modified level of services as described below.
Business Certificates (Doing Business As)
- Renewals will be processed when the Town offices re-open.

Dog Licensing / Lost Dogs
- Dog license applications can be submitted through the following means:
- Online at https://www.braintreema.gov/426/Dog-Registrations.
- By Mail to Braintree Town Clerk, One JFK Memorial Drive, Braintree, MA 02184.
- By Hand Delivery using the brown “Tax Collector” Drop-Off Box by the U.S. Mail Box in the parking lot outside of Town Hall.
- Payments must be made using check or money order only.
- All applications must include a copy of your dog’s rabies vaccination document(s). Please be aware that your dog has to be current with their rabies vaccination(s) in order to obtain a license.
- If you see a dog that appears to be lost please contact the Braintree Police non-emergency line at 781-843-1212 so that they can notify the Animal Control Officer.
Elections
The March 28, 2020 Local Special Election has been postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date.
Absentee Ballots
- All absentee ballots cast and returned for the March 28, 2020 Special Election will be stored in the Town Clerk’s vault and be cast on the day of the rescheduled Special Election.
- If you requested an absentee ballot and have not yet returned your ballot, you may return the absentee ballot up to and including the day of the rescheduled Special Election. You may choose to vote in person in lieu of by absentee ballot.
- Absentee ballot requests will continue to be accepted up until 12 Noon on the day before the rescheduled Special Election.

Notary Services
These services will not be provided until further notice.
Marriage Intentions
This service will be provided by appointment and only to those couples whose wedding date has been scheduled to be performed within seven (7) days of the request. Please keep in mind that there is a three (3) day waiting period and a license is good for sixty days (60). Justice of the Peace Services
This service will be provided by appointment only and outside of the Town Hall building while practicing social distancing.
Oath of Office for Board and Committee Members
This service will resume when Town offices are open to the public. If your board must meet during this time, and you will be participating, please contact the Town Clerk prior to the meeting to determine if administration of your oath of office is feasible.
