With National Census Day today, Mayor Charles Kokoros would like to share the three different ways residents can fill out the 2020 Census.
The 2020 Census can be completed online here. The Census can also be completed by mail or over the phone.
"Filling out the information takes only a matter of minutes and can be done online, making it convenient for residents during this unique time when many are staying home in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19," Mayor Kokoros said. "The results can have a significant impact on our community and beyond and we strongly encourage residents to fill it out." Starting last month, residents nationwide began receving invitations to complete the census. Data will be collected until July.
According to Secretary of State William Galvin’s website dedicated to the Massachusetts 2020 Census, the census impacts how much federal and state funding is given to communities for various projects in areas including education, transportation and public health. The census also impacts the state’s representation in Congress and how many votes it has in the Electoral College, as well as representation in state and local government.
Nearly 46% of all Braintree residnets have participated in the Census as of Monday, March 30, 2020. The average nationwide and for the 8th Congressional District is around 36% and the average response rate for Massachusetts is roughly 38%.
