[ARCHIVED] Braintree Independence Day Celebration Canceled

The 47th Annual Braintree Independence Day Celebration - affectionally dubbed “Braintree Day” - scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2020 has been canceled.

“Although we are unable to honor America’s birthday with a parade and fireworks, we can still celebrate all that we love about Braintree and our great nation,” said Mayor Kokoros. “Our community will persevere through its strength and resilience, embodying that of our founding fathers, during these most challenging times.”

The Committee is thankful for the generous support it has received from numerous local businesses and residents who have helped make this event possible. Without them, Braintree Day would not exist. As many of these businesses are now facing financial challenges themselves, the Committee is taking this opportunity to pay it forward and help support their continued operations. $1,000 worth of gift cards will be purchased from our local business supporters to be distributed as prizes during future Committee-sponsored events. Keep any eye on the Committee’s website at braintrees4th.org and social media pages @braintrees4th for information on upcoming events, which will allow for safe participation and social distancing by all who attend.

“This was an extremely difficult decision for the Committee, but given the ongoing health and safety concerns associated with COVID-19 we felt it was necessary to cancel this year’s events,” said 4th of July Committee Chairman Sean Powers.

The Committee is also extremely grateful for the support that it has received from the Town, including incredible assistance from the Braintree Police and Fire Departments, our DPW crews, BELD, and the Town Hall staff.

The 2nd Annual 5k to Braintree Day Road Race, scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2020, has also been canceled.  Race registrations for 2020 will be honored for the 2021 race.
