“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Laurie Melchionda. She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her, myself included. I know I speak for Superintendent Hackett and the School Committee when I say that Laurie dedicated her life to helping others and her kindness and love will be sorely missed,” said Mayor Kokoros.
Laurie served as a nurse with the Braintree Public Schools from 1997 until June 2018, when she left to become the Director of Nursing in Weston, and as a beloved member of the Board of Health since October 2016. As a member of the staff at Flaherty Elementary School and South Middle School, and during her tenure as the Director of Nursing, Laurie was a positive influence to so many in our community and her passing is a tragedy for her family and the Town as a whole.
“The Braintree Board of Health, Braintree Health Department and the Town of Braintree have lost a wonderful Public Health Official and good friend today. Laurie was a true champion and advocate of public and environmental health and was incredibly devoted to the positive health and well-being of the residents of our community,” said Marybeth McGrath, Director, Municipal Licenses and Inspections.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones during this difficult time.
