Braintree: Ramp and Sidewalk Replacement, Accessible Detours
Construction activities will require pedestrians seeking an accessible route from Union Street to Braintree Station follow alternative routes while improvements are underway as part of the South Shore Garages Project. A new temporary bus stop will be provided for Phase 1 work only.
For a detour map and updates on this work, please see the project website here: https://www.mbta.com/projects/south-shore-garages/update/braintree-ramp-and-sidwalk-replacement-accessible-detours.
Phase 1 – Ramp Replacement (short term)
Starting on Tuesday, September 4 through Friday, September 7 the ramp on the Union Street side of the parking garage will be closed. Pedestrians needing to access the station will follow signage around the front of garage and along Ivory Street to enter Braintree Station. During this work, a temporary bus stop for the Route 230 bus will be located at the corner of Union and Ivory streets. Bus stop signage will be posted.
Phase 2 – Brick Sidewalk alongside Braintree Station
Starting on Monday, September 10th for approximately the next 10 months (July 2019) pedestrians using Union Street will follow clearly designated alternative access route to/from the station. Temporary signage and jersey barriers will be in place to clearly direct commuters to/from the station. The existing brick sidewalk will be removed and replaced.
We acknowledge that these changes will be disruptive. Please feel free to contact the Project Team at southshoregarages@mbta.com or MBTA customer service at 617-222-3200. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to bring long-awaited improvements to the MBTA’s Braintree Station.
