Outdoor Open Burning

Outdoor open burning in the Town of Braintree is permitted by seasonal permit only, beginning January 15 each year. The Braintree Fire Department enforces strict guidelines to ensure safety and compliance with state regulations.

Burning Season Dates

  • Start Date: January 15
  • Permits Required: Yes – obtained in person only
  • Location: Braintree Fire Headquarters
  • Hours to Obtain Permits: Daily, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Permit Details

  • Fee: $25 (Check only — payable to “Town of Braintree”)
  • Where to Get a Permit: Fire Headquarters, 1 Union Place (M-F 8:30am-4:30pm)

Daily Approval Required

Even with a valid permit, you must call each day you wish to burn to receive approval based on conditions.
