Vision Loss Group
This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Department of Elder Affairs. It is designed to offer its members information and support in the struggles associated with the various stages of vision loss. Coffee and pastries are provided by the Department of Elder Affairs.
Red Hat Group
This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. The members enjoy social and recreational activities.
TRIAD
This group meets at the Department of Elder Affairs on the second Monday of each month. TRIAD is a commitment between The Braintree Police Department, the Braintree Fire Department, the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department, and the senior population of Braintree. This collaboration tries to assist the community in reducing fear of crime, develop ways to prevent problems, and educate the public on ways to keep healthy and safe. A couple of the programs that have developed from this group include the File of Life forms and the Are You Okay? program.
File of Life Forms
The File of Life forms consist of a wallet size form for traveling and a larger size with a magnet on it for placement on the refrigerator. The forms have spaces for your emergency and medical information. Emergency personnel look for this information in the event they are called to you home. The wallet size forms are required for anyone who uses our vans or bus trips. The forms are usually available at the Department of Elder Affairs. They can also be picked up at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department. They are free of charge. Call Maria at 781-751-3505.
Are You Okay? Program
The Are You Okay? program is run from the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department. Applications are available at the Department of Elder Affairs and by calling Deputy Cheryl Bambery at 781-751-3504. The Are You Okay? program consists of an automated telephone call to your home each day. Cheryl monitors the calls, and if she hears that someone is in distress, she will pick up the call and talk directly to the person. If there is no answer after repeated tries, the deputy will notify your emergency contact that you are not answering your call and may need help. If you need to be out at the time that your call is scheduled to come in, you can call the deputy to cancel the call for that day. This program is free of charge.
