[ARCHIVED] Mayor Charles C. Kokoros Establishes Master Plan Steering Committee

Town of Braintree Seal

Background

The Town’s last Master Plan was completed in 1998.  Since 1998, the Town has experienced growth in almost all sectors, including residential, commercial, institutional and non-profits, and it has become clear through a consensus of residents and elected officials that a new Master Plan is the necessary next step in providing a framework for land use and development vision for the Town’s future.

Mayor Kokoros pledged efforts for a new Master Plan and, on February 18, 2020, Mayor Kokoros requested that the Town Council appropriate funds in the amount of $200,000.00 to fund the creation of a Master Plan for the Town of Braintree. This request was approved by the Council on April 28, 2020.

Steering Committee

In order to support the process, and ensure that the Master Plan is representative of our community wide values and aspirations of all stakeholders (including the resident and business community), Mayor Kokoros has established a Steering Committee. The Committee will represent stakeholders from various geographic areas in our community and will include:

  • 5 Residents
  • 3 Business Owners
  • 1 Planning Board Member
  • 2 Town Councilors (to be selected by the Council President)

If you are interested in serving on the Steering Committee, please complete the Master Plan Steering Committee application and return it to the Mayor’s Office at Braintree Town Hall, 1 JFK Memorial Drive, Braintree, MA 02184 or by email at mayorsoffice@braintreema.gov. Click here for the application and the deadline to submit an application is October 1, 2020.

Objectives

The Steering Committee will be appointed for Phase I (Visioning) and Phase II (Master Plan) and will be expected to participate for the entirety of the project, as further detailed below. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working with the Master Plan Consultant to make recommendations, intermittent reporting to the Mayor’s Office, Planning and Community Development Department and Town Council and publishing a final report outlining the issues raised and final recommendations for each element of the Master Plan.
