The Town of Braintree requires that all dog owners must register their dog(s) each year.

The purpose of this Ordinance (PDF) is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of all the inhabitants who frequent and live in the town. It is further the purpose of this ordinance to prevent the needless health hazards caused by dog bites and dog feces upon public and private properties.

Dog Licensing Period

The 2025 dog licensing period runs from April 1 until June 30. All renewal requests, either online, in-person or by mail, must be submitted by this time to avoid a late fee. 2025 licenses are valid through March 31, 2026.  

Register Your Dog Online*

Dog owners that have registered their dog with the town in previous years and have up-to-date rabies inoculation information on file with the Town Clerk are eligible to register their dog using our new dog registration application by simply clicking on the barking dog to be redirect to the login screen.  

*Online registrations can be made by electronic check or by debit/credit card (a service fee will apply for online payments including a $1.50 postage and handling charge).  

Register Your Dog by Mail**

Renewal and new dog registrations can be done by mail. Download a dog registration form and complete all registration information (up to two dogs can be registered on form).  

Make your check payable to the Town of Braintree, $16.50 for an intact dog / $11.50 for a dog spayed/neutered, which includes a $1.50 postage and handling fee, and mail to the address noted on the form. Please be sure you include your dogs up-to-date rabies inoculation information. 

Register Your Dog In-Person***

Renewal and new dog registrations can be done in-person at Braintree Town Hall - Office of the Town Clerk. Please be sure you bring your dogs up-to-date rabies inoculation information.  

                         Fees: $15 for an intact dog / $10 for a dog spayed/neutered.                           ***(a service fee will apply on card payments).  

                            Annual Rabies Clinic

The Annual Rabies Clinic t will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 in the Town Hall side parking lot and will run from 10 a.m. until Noon. A vaccination fee of $15.00 per animal will be required.  Clinic sponsored by the Town of Braintree, Braintree Jaycees and Dr. Joseph Cosman, DMV of the VCA.
