Monatiquot River Access
Middle St. Monatiquot River Trail
The Town acquired a six-acre parcel of land off of Middle St in 2018 for open space and recreation. A public meeting was held in October 2019 at which two trail concept plans were presented. One was entirely boardwalk and the other a mix of boardwalk and at grade trail. The overwhelming preference was for Option B. The Town refined Concept B and developed construction plans in March 2022. You can access the trail via parallel parking on Middle St. During your walk you can scan 6 informational QR codes to learn about features along the path.

Allen St. River Access
A Notice of Intent was filed in 2021 for work at 4 & 44 Allen Street at the former Braintree Electric Light Department. A part of the project entails development of a Riverwalk (boardwalk, overlooks, and amenities) and open space along the Monatiquot River including seawall repairs and additional erosion controls.
Kayak Access
Many residents have inquired to the Department about kayak access to the Monatiquot River. Given the variable conditions of the river (fast current, potential white water and drops, snags, low flows, etc.) we determined that a launch is not feasible. We recommend those interested in paddling the Monatiquot begin at the Fore River canoe/kayak launch in Weymouth and proceed upstream to the Monatiquot so that you can determine conditions as you go.
